'One Hundred Views of a Metagon': Notes: News
-
May 2001. "Digital Fine Art"
published an article about the Digital Print Show at the Brooklyn
Museum of Art, and discusses how my work is generated algorithmically
--in contrast with PhotoShopping. There is a nice quote from Curator
Marilyn Kushner: "He's (Jean-Pierre
Hébert) made a series of more than one
hundred prints that are wonderful. I only put one in it (the show)
but I would have loved to have done an exhibition of all of them. They
are all from one algorithm and are beautiful and very different. He
creates his own programs."
-
January 2001. Several large original iris prints and plotter drawings
on the Metagon Theme are exhibited at the ElCamino Gallery.
-
April 2000. The Twenty-Four Views in the first edition are exhibited in
Los Altos Hills,
-
December 1999 to date. Several Metagon Views have been produced as
experimental prints on the etching press with help and advice from
Elaine LeVasseur.
-
September 1999. The Svit Ozor Gallery (Santa Barbara) displays several
Metagon Views.
Small limited editions of six iris prints on 22"x30" Arches
have been completed for four Metagon Views.
-
July 1999. Several very minimalist original views have been completed
as ink on paper.
-
June 1999. The 'One Hundred Views of a Metagon' web site has been
remodeled. Athanas Lolov has suggested other titles: "echoes of
spira mirabilis" (refering to how the logarithmic spiral was
named); also "polygonal reverberations", and "metagonal
overtones".
-
May 1999. Result of changes in relations with CEP, the 'One Hundred
Views of a Metagon' have now become self-published, and the
representation for the series of prints is now in the author's sole
hands.
-
Mars 1999. 'One Hundred Views of a Metagon'
first public display.
Peter Alpers is showing a first sampling of the first prints of the
first of four books of the 'One Hundred Views of a Metagon' in his
Boston area Gallery. I wrote a preliminary statement about the
work for this opening. The twenty-four prints for the first book have
been printed and curated by Jennifer Mahlman.
-
December 1998 & February 1999. images of the Views have been
published on the back cover of an art magazine.
-
November 1998. a small set of views has been published by Kent Dybvig
(Cadence Research Systems, Bloomington, IN) as illustrations for the
"Chez Scheme System Manual".
-
September 1998. 'One Hundred Views of a
Metagon' received Bon a tirer.
I reviewed the final editing by Jon Cone & Andre Ribuoli on
September 12th 1998. Now the Views have received a Bon A Tirer for Cone
Edition Press (East Topsham, Vermont) to print as a limited edition
(ten on 'Sommerset Book' paper). The entire
series will be commented, released in four books over many months or
years, and the books eventually will be presented in an illustrated
portfolio.
-
July 1998. 'One Hundred Views of a Metagon'
Creation complete.
The "One Hundred Views of a Single Theme" have been
completed by July 2nd 1998. In fact a 100 views have been selected from
more than 400 (the 100 are actually 102, like Hokusai's "One
Hundred Views of Mount Fuji"); this selection is subject to
changes as probable new views will be considered.
