line statement

my interest is the line, what creates it, how to render it, how to use it; lines by myself, by others; lines in nature, in physics, in mathematics. the line fascinates me because it is the foundation of drawing, and that of visual art; because the line is the thread in the weave of space; because the line is a metaphor for motion, and hence for time, and for music. my work is a reflexion, a meditation on the line. it has been said that drawing is gesture: it can be that, but it can also be much more than that. drawing is also an idea of a motion, a prelude to gestures, a gift of time. drawing is just a thought.

i do not believe in art. I believe in artists. (marcel duchamp)
